ICSE and ISC Recheck, Re-evaluation, and Improvement Exam: Complete Guide

After results, CISCE offers three distinct options: recheck, re-evaluation, and the improvement exam. Each has a different purpose and timeline. Understanding the difference saves you from applying for the wrong one.

For the 2026 cycle: the recheck window was 1–4 May 2026 (₹1,000 per paper); the improvement exam registration ran 8–14 May 2026 (up to 3 subjects — increased from the previous limit of 2); improvement exams for ICSE ran 15–30 June 2026 and for ISC from 15 June to 1 July 2026; re-evaluation opened for three days after the recheck result (₹1,500 per paper, and only for those who had already applied for recheck). Results for the improvement exam were expected in late July 2026.

How to decide which option to use

  1. Did you suspect a totalling or marking error? — Apply for recheck first. Recheck opens immediately after results and closes within a few days. You must do this before re-evaluation is possible.
  2. After the recheck result, consider re-evaluation — If the recheck result does not resolve your concern, re-evaluation is available for three days after the recheck result. Note: re-evaluation is available only after recheck.
  3. Did you pass but want stronger marks for college? — The improvement exam is for candidates who want to reappear in up to 3 subjects. Registration opens immediately after results (8–14 May in 2026) and closes quickly.

The recheck window closes fast: In 2026, the recheck window was only 1–4 May — four days after results. If you plan to apply, be ready immediately after results day. Confirm the exact window on the official CISCE portal for your cycle.
